Out of the mouths of babes: The philosophical and often prophetic things children say

The things that come out of my son's mouth are absolutely startling. Apparently you don't learn the art of little white lies until after seven. When after seven- I don't know- but in the meantime that naturally embedded truth sermon is an unstoppable force.
For instance, when my husband took the kids over to his sister's house. I'm told that my son stared at his Aunt, gave her a hug, and then took a step back. He looked her up and down once more, and finally blurted out, "Auntie you're fat!" Earlier this year, I heard him ask his sister why her thighs were so skinny and not juiced up like mom's. I walked into the living room and asked, "Are you making fun of my thighs?" "No", he says. "They're juiced up enough." Since I wasn't exactly sure how to take that, I just walked away. Then recently he asked me if I was going to get fat.

"I hope not, why?"
"Because when you get old you get fat."
"That's not true some people get really skinny and waste away. Are you calling me old?"
"Well you're older."
"Older than you but not old!"
All of the sudden I remembered using the spelling word decrepit on my mom. You really do reap what you sow. However, with the bad does come some good. I know that if I come down the stairs and my son looks up at me bright eyed, smiling, and says, "Mom you look really pretty", I really do look pretty.
