Here are a few situations you should definitely avoid when selling your car.

*Never allow a buyer to make payments.
Anytime you sell your vehicle, you should keep the car and the title in your hand until you have received 100% of the selling price and the cash is in the bank. When someone offers to pay 50% now and 50% as soon as they get their next check, etc. that is a guarateed problem waiting to happen.

*Never sell your car until you know how you're going to get around afterward.
Make sure you line up a ride or have a car picked out that you can afford before selling your car. Once your car is sold it's a little late to try to develop a plan to get another car.

*Never make claims about your car that are not accurate.
If you posted your advertisement several months back and you have since driven another 3,000 miles, it is important to explain that to people as early as possible. You never want to be in a situation where someone feels as if you lied to them or misled them about the car.

*Avoid selling used cars to family members or close friends
Regardless of how much someone may love your car or how badly you'd like to sell it, you should avoid selling to friends or family. This is generally a situation that you will both regret and it's not worth the 'deal' that both feel you got.

If you abide by those tips you should be fine.
