The most important thing to remember in being a nurse is COMPASSION. This word is overlooked so much of the time. The seasoned nurses forget it, and the new nurses are too nervous to show it.
As a nurse you will have bad days, good days and fantastic days. As a nurse, you can make someone feel better just by a kind word or smile. This is forgotten a lot of the time.
The meaning of COMPASSION is "inclining one to show mercy." That means to everyone in your charge...the patients, the patients families, the nurses assistant, the secretary. All those people that you come in contact with on a daily basis. The professional manner you handle yourself tempered with COMPASSION, will make you good at your job. As a nurse, you can't have a bad attitude and come to work...or at least you shouldn't. I have seen many that do, and it is a bad example to the patients.
