House moving horror stories

was not slipping off the highway, much to my dismay, he increased his speed accordingly. I believe it was in Missouri where he threatened to throw me out of the truck. So much for conversation on this particular "day from hell".

Eventually, the snow changed to rain as we made our way through Oklahoma where we actually enjoyed our first rays of sun. Mother Nature was simply teasing us though, because by the time we hit our last stop, it was snowing again in Gallop, NM.

Huge puddles of water and piles of icy slush were all over the roads as we attempted to find our motel. By this time it was New Year's Eve, but we were so exhausted and stressed-out, even a celebratory kiss was an effort.

Final Trouble: By the last morning we had rallied our spirits and looked forward to the warmth of our new desert city. We drove into Las Vegas on January 1, 1991, the temperature was cool, and greeting us were an abundance of black palm tree leaves-everywhere! Las Vegas had also experienced the cold whimsy of Mother Nature.

Pushing on, we found our rented apartment late in the afternoon only to discover that we had no electricity. (And, of course, it was a Sunday!) We didn't unpack anything, just drove our loaded truck to a nearby off-the-strip motel/casino and managed to get a room. During the night, we were awakened by a money dispute outside of our window between a "lady of the night" and her pimp. (I'll let you imagine the dialog.) Yes, I thought, "Welcome to Las Vegas!"

Fortunately, our life improved dramatically after that extremely difficult trip. We discovered that moving such a far distance from family and friends and starting over is not for the faint of heart. But, it can make you stronger, and if your marriage survives, it can be the better for it too.
