Companies that keep employees happy and motivated have done so by taking the time to invest in their employees. The benefits are two-fold. First and foremost they are seeing an increase in productivity and moral. Staff on all levels of employment, feel as though they are making a difference, and feeling appreciated is just the start.
Companies that want to maintain an edge in the corporate world of success and leadership will keep in place the proper incentives that allow for employees to be as productive as possible, and still maintain proper work ethics while performing their daily tasks.
I've listed a few things that if incorporated into a daily routine, in an office environment or even an environment of several hundred employees, if followed through, there would be an increase in the employees desire to put their best foot forward.
Managers
Your title is the respect we show you by how well you lead us, to be as successful as we can be. Please don't abuse that privilege. We are only as good as the manager that's been employed to lead us. Lead by example and we will follow by reward.
As employees, we look up to you for encouragement and guidance on a daily basis. We expect as much from you, as you do from us. We will work as hard for you as we can. Your role as manager is to exemplify excellence, and in return we will do the same.
Recognition
Recognition can be one of many things. It can be as simple as a pat on the back for a job well done, or an award for a job well done, such as "employee of the month", and on an even grander scale, a pay raise.
Having worked in a large facility, I was impressed that the administrator made it his duty to know the employees on a first name basis, and if you were new, he would walk right up and introduce himself in a non-threatening way. It was a small gesture, with a huge impact.
Problem Solving
Holding weekly meetings is a good time to allow employees to network problem solving ideas. Utilizing new ideas encourages teamwork, therefore reinforcing positive results in the process.
When employees are included, and allowed to voice an opinion, without fear of reprimand, they feel validated even if it's not favorable for them. We all have egos, but there's a huge difference between egos vs. arrogance.
Conclusion
Our work environment is like a 2nd home for most of us. We have as much of an investment there as the company that employs us. We recognize that responsibility, and understand that success is within reach for us all.
Employees are more often than not, the very backbone of many companies. No matter the position or title we hold, we are an intricate component that is necessary for the organization as a whole to stay ahead. Investing in your employees and employing only the best, will garner a return that's ten-fold.
