Yes, it should be a sacred institution only between a man and a woman simply because it is a sacred institution. It is an institution created for the procreation of the human race and the creation of the family unit as an institution in itself.

It is a bond between a man and a woman that says we will commit ourselves to each other forever, for the purposes of companionship, love, children, and the creation of a family unit. It is a moral contract between two people for the creation and raising of children as well as personal satisfaction. It is because only a man and a woman can create a child that it should be an institution that should be sanctified and protected. Without children our race ceases to exist. Anybody can adopt, but only a man and a woman can create life.

Marriage absolutely has to mean something. It should never be cheapened by allowing people of the same sex to claim the same status. They can call their relationships whatever they want, but not marriage. They are not joining together for the same reasons.

If marriage is not a sacred institution recognized by society as such then there is no point in marriage. There are certain responsibilities involved in getting married. The raising of children, the training of these children to be good citizens, supporting these children not only monetarily but emotionally and by physically being there for them. It's not easy sometimes, but it's necessary. Someone has to teach them right and wrong, someone has to show them the value of what a family is. Without family what is there? Even gays came from a family. It had to mean something to them. Do gays turn their backs on their families just because they are gay? I think not. If anything they want more than anything for their families to accept them. But it's their family they are looking for acceptance from, not from other gays, they already have that.

Only a family will tolerate the village idiot and the family is the only place that idiot can turn to. No one else will put up with it.

A family means unconditional love. The family will always welcome you home no matter how stupid you are, no matter how much trouble you are in. The family are the only ones you can count on, no matter what, but a family consists of a mother and a father and usually one or two or more siblings, not a gay partner.

The world is an organized place for a reason. It goes something like this.
