As an attorney who attended a 4th tier school and later transferred to a 1st tier school, I feel confident I can add some insight here.
In choosing a law school, you should have some idea of what type of lawyer you want to be. If you want to work at a large firm upon graduation(which consists of great money 120k+...but very long hours), you NEED to attend the highest ranked school that you possibly can no matter the location. See US News for latest rankings.
On the other hand, if you want to work in public interest, for the government, a smaller firm, or start your own firm, it really does not matter which school you attend. Personally, I began law school at Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego. For me, it was a great decision. My wife and I were able to live in San Diego...which certainly had its advantages. Additionally, the small size of the school was great. Access to professors was more exceptional, and the education was equal to my experience at the 1st tier, more "prestigious" school.
My point is that all law schools have their advantages and disadvantages. The best way to choose them is to set up a tour (many schools will allow you to follow a student around for a day) and see if you like the "vibe" of the school. Consider
i) the library as you'll be spending a lot of time there, ii) the students- these will be your peers for three long years, iii) the surrounding area for obvious reasons, and iv)the interaction between professors and students.
Choosing a law school you are comfortable with is incredibly important as you'll be spending 3 of the most challenging and rewarding years of your life there. Good luck in your search.
