Aging is an amazing thing. I went to bed one night when I was 39 and the next morning when I woke up I was 40. I didn't feel any different. I still felt like I was 39. It is inevitable. We are going to get older. We can't defy it. There are no magic pills or miracle skin creams to prevent it. However, I do think how you age stems from your attitude toward aging.
When my children were teenagers I would often hear their friends from school say with disbelief, "That's your mom?". I would kindly smile, say hello, and acknowledge that I really was their mom. Now my children are in their 20's and when we are out socially and someone hears them call me 'Mom' they say, "Did you call her mom? She looks so young. I thought you all were just friends". I'm flattered so I politely thank them and assure them that I am their mother.
What's the secret? Laughter. Laugh everyday whether it is at yourself or finding humor in everyday experiences. Children keep you young at heart. You can count on them to let you know what's current and cool, and what's outdated and corny.
The golden rule of treating people the way you want to be treated still holds true.
Watch what you eat but don't deprive yourself. Remember moderation in everything. Cocoa butter lotion is good for the skin and milk does a body good.
I'm 49 now but I still feel like I'm 39. Is 50 the new 40? Ask me next year.
Welcome your ever changing age and accept it with confidence. Live long and prosper.
