Poetry: Children's holiday poems

"Our grandkids are coming tomorrow," I said,
As I shed a happy tear,
"They're spending their holidays just with us,
And we'll all share our Christmas cheer!"

So we dragged the toy box out of the shed,
Filled with Lego and teddies and trucks.
We sorted the pencils and paints and craft stuff,
And the bikes and scooters and such.

We went to the local Mall to shop,
And filled the trolley so high,

With kiddie treats that grandparents give,
Like cookies and ice-creams and pies.

Well the kids arrived on the plane at last,
And we met them with kisses and hugs,
No parents, just us and our grandkids dear,
To spoil and to shower with love.

Our house was soon bopping to Crazy Frog',
Playing over and over again.
Lego models and teddies graced every room,
Down the hallway raced cars, trucks, and trains.

Our home was filled with laughter and joy,
As we joked and had fun with our boys,
We turned a blind eye to the mess that was made,
In our rooms with the wall to wall toys.

The bonds we share with our grandkids are strong,
And childhood, a fleeting time zone,
Where we treasure each moment of simple delight,
And the cares of the world are unknown.

"Our grandkids are going tomorrow," I said,
As I shed a happy tear,
"Your Mummy and Daddy are missing you,
We'll see you again next year."
