Why spend $100 on groceries when you can eat an entire meal for $3.25?!?!

The fast food dollar menu seems to be the one competitive trend in chain restaurants that just won't go away. Unfortunately, although it's a financial relief for many families in the United States, it's also a dangerous epidemic.

Studies have shown that on average it is 40% cheaper to feed a family of five fast food than to buy groceries and prepare healthy, well-rounded meals at home. This is a sad fact that has been created by the dog-eat-dog competitive environment of the fast food industry.

Prior to dollar menus, fast food was generally cheap, but not to the extent that it is today. If you compare the consumer price index price growth of average consumer goods to a cheeseburger or taco, it's astonishing! Water has gone up in price nearly 60 times as much as beef!

So, just remember the next time you leave the dorm to grab a late night cheeseburger, the habits you form today may kill you tomorrow. But they certainly won't drain your retirement account as quickly!
