Hotel chain reviews: Best Western hotels

Looking for a nice, relatively inexpensive hotel in any one of 80 countries? Then look no further than Best Western hotels. Celebrating sixty years in the "room away from home" business, Best Western boasts over 4200 locations world wide. Most locations are independently owned and operated, but Best Western has a standard of service all operators are expected to achieve.

When you are on vacation, you will likely only be in your hotel room to sleep, keep your personal belongings, shower and dress. Most people are usually sight seeing, attending some events or participating in outside activities. Best Western hotels consistently provide a clean, comfortable room with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, hair dryer, iron and ironing board and for a reasonable price. Different locations offer different amenities some have swimming pools, spas or Jacuzzis, fitness rooms, business centers and in-room high speed Internet connections.

One of my favorite stays was at the Best Western in Ozona Texas. They provided fresh baked cookies every afternoon. Nothing soothes the road frazzled nerves like the smell and taste of something from home. This was unexpected as Ozona is a small town off I-10 somewhere between El Paso and Austin Texas. One might expect to find a cheap, dirty, hole in the wall but instead this hotel was much like a shining beacon in the middle of nowhere. This particular hotel also offered a continental breakfast. Nothing too special but there was cereal, bread and bagels for toast with the appropriate spreads, assorted fruit and beverages, coffee, tea and juice. Enough to curb your appetite until the noon time meal. Some locations offer a hot breakfast but at this particular location they did not. The pool was perfect for this road warrior perfect temperature, clean and not too much chlorine. This was another refreshing amenity that helped me relax during my long drive from Northern California to Houston Texas.

Best Western offers a Gold Crown Club for the frequent traveler. The points that accumulate do not expire, providing the opportunity for free nights for the duration of the membership. Points accumulate at the rate of ten points per dollar spent and rewards begin at about 5,000 points. One of the awards available with this membership is a global free room with no blackout dates. This is a great option since often other businesses will black out holidays and peak vacation dates.

When planning my personal time away from home, I demand a clean, comfortable, inexpensive place to stay. I know I will have my expectations met when I choose a Best Western.
