children continue to love us despite the fact that they are told No.
My children often don't like me. They don't like me when I make them put their shoes on to protect there feet or a hat to protect them from the cold. They don't like me when I make them drink red Kool-aid at the kitchen table or take the green freeze-pop outside. They don't like vegetables but I insist they eat them. They hate it when I turn off the TV and make them do homework. They despise bedtime but I insisit on it anyway. I force my children to do a lot of things that they don't want to do. I make them do the right thing even when I would rather ignore it. That is my job I am their mom, there teacher. Who will tell them right from wrong if I don't. My most important job is to give them rules and expect them to follow them. If I didn't do this most important job I would not be giving them all of my love, I would be neglecting them.
When they tell me that it's not fair that they hate me and I'm the worst mother in the world. I remind them that if they liked me I wouldn't be doing my job. When they grow up and have their own kids, that is when they will like me. They will love me because I made them do all of the things that they hated.
I feel sorry for this little girl. She always gets what she wants, I wonder what her life will be like as she grows. Will she get bad grades for not wanting to do her homework. Will she get kicked out of school for not wearing shoes. Will she be able to find a job if she still wont brush her hair, or worse will she end up in jail because she did what she wanted to with out any regard for anyone else.
Life is hard. We love our children and want to coddle them. I coddle mine. Working mothers or stay at home mothers. It is just as hard to tell your children 'No'. As much as we hate that word it is our best friend. Our tool for life. Please love your children enough to tell them NO.
