Internet Explorer vs. Mozilla Firefox

Internet Explorer is a useful program if you just want to browse the web for a short time, not that often. But Firefox is so much better for users who use the Internet for longer periods of time.

Firefox has built-in security features that are exposed on IE. So you're safer. One example of this is the built-in popup blocker, which stops those annoying adverts and spy ware-riddled windows from appearing. But this is not a problem if you want the popup to open, you just simply click a banner that appears. None of this 'Hold down CTRL and click' rubbish with Internet Explorer. Firefox's enhanced security features protect you better when you're on-line than IE's do.

Then there's the interface. Tabbed browsing on Firefox is what made me originally use it more than Internet Explorer. It's a lot better having one window open than having three open. The buttons look better and the menus are better organized. Firefox is prettier.

And there are thing Firefox has than Internet Explorer just doesn't. Take the 'Downloads' window in Firefox. All your current downloads, and a history of recent ones, all kept in one window. So you know what you've downloaded, and you can open it from that screen. And there are many other things that just make it more...useful. Recently Closed Tabs allows you to open things you may have accidentally closed. With a simple key combination you can clear all your private and personal data. Firefox is cleverer.

I'm sure that Firefox has it's problems. But in over a year, I've never found any. It takes a little longer to load on my machine, but the wait is worth it. And for those of you who have used the new Internet Explorer, IE7, you will see how some of the ideas have been copied from Mozilla Firefox. For example, the tabbed browsing and the option to customize the program with add-ons are both Firefox ideas.

Simply, for better and safer browsing, get Firefox.
