Lets go beyond the simplistic question posed and ask the real question that needs to be answered. Can one move through time into the past?

We all know that time travel is not only possible but a necessary part of life. with out time travel we would be static and non changing and life could not exist. When physicists come to this philosophical conclusion they will have taken the first steps toward moving backward in time. Many of the mistakes that physicist currently make are due to their lack of philosophical understanding of the problems they are investigating. The question being asked as the topic is prime example. If you are moving forward in time and still have to ask if time travel is possible then you are philosophically handicapped in your answer because you begin to ask the wrong questions.

It is quite obvious that we can see into the past. One merely has to look up into a clear night sky in order to look back millions of years into the past. This however is not the same as traveling into the past. Nothing is where we see it no matter how close it is to you, you are seeing where it was when the light left it not where it is at the moment of observation.
The feasibility of traveling into the past is a matter of perspective. What do you want to do in the past? just observe? You hardly need to go into the past to do that. As we have previously explained observing the past is quite easy as is moving into the future. Do you wish to make some change in the past? This is prohibited by my first law of time travel so you can forget doing that it is simply not possible due to the nature of what time is. What other possible reasons are there for going into the past? I can think of only one other reason to wish to go to the past and that is to move to a place in space that is very distant from the place one starts.
Now just because the past cannot be changed doesn't mean that you can not have an effect on the past. This may sound nonsensical but it is not. Heisenberg's uncertainty principle says that the observer affects whatever it is that he observes. This suggests that by staring up into the heavens one is affecting the past that he is observing. To be sure the affect is minimal but it is an affect. The part that is hard to conceive is that we here in the future have already affected the past in a major fashion and yet have made no changes to it.
