Recently I found myself working in a local bread shop that offers free internet access. I've been doing this for over 7 years now and when I started the number of visible Apple computer owners was limited to well...just me. Talk about being a double minority. But recently I was absolutely astonished to see the number of Macbook and Powerbook users surfing away while chomping on a bagel or downing their favorite lattes.
It's apparent that Apple notebooks represent a growing number of computer users so I thought I'd pen this article on one of Apple's premier service products .Mac.
This article will explain what .Mac is, the three categories that .Mac services fall into, and just some of the cool things .Mac users can do.
Ready? Then sit back and let's dive in.
What is .Mac
.Mac is a membership based service from Apple computer that provides the simplicity of the Mac with power of the internet. Apples intent with .Mac is to help users discover better ways to experience the web.
By extending the reach of iLife applications, Mac OS X, and third party software Apple has helped users to experience the web in extraordinary ways.
.Mac functionality can be broken down into 3 broad categories which are sharing, managing, and communicating:
Let's take a closer look at each.
Sharing your life and everything in it.
Mac users can with one-click publish their own website (no HTML required), create photocast, and share files with quick drag and drop
Managing stuff .Mac offers two services that make keeping tabs on your stuff easy. Sync allows users to access bookmarks and contacts from anywhere from any computer with Internet access. Backup provides regular, automatic backups to safeguard files.
Communicate creatively.Mac users get world-class email and web-mail without world class ads attached. Additionally .Mac users can create groups to keep teams or clubs on the same page and the same calendar
There you have it .Mac in a nutshell.
