When to consult a nutritionist

You should definitely consult a nutritionist when your eating is so abnormal that you can't fix it on your own. Whether it be over eating or under eating, both of these extremes are eating disorders and should be taken seriously. A nutritionist should be able to help you safely get back on track with a normal diet for you age, body type, and weight. Most of the time eating disorders are a psychological problem you may be having and those problems of course need to be dealt with but a nutritionist wouldn't be able to help with that. A nutritionist can help you discover what foods your body needs or don't need and fix your diet that way. Here's an example. I went to see a nutritionist when I was pregnant because apparently I was gaining weight too fast. What was I doing wrong? I ate every 2 hours like they told me! Well, what was I eating? I was supposed to be eating small meals! A meal can be anything you eat, it doesn't have to be a 3 course dinner. A yogurt can be considered a meal. So after I saw the nutritionist my weight gain went back to normal and I only gained 45 pounds during my pregnancy which is in normal range. She explained to be to cut out some carbs because I was over doing to carbs. She gave me a sample of high fiber cereal which can help regulate digestion. She taught me a lot about eating that I didn't know. If you aren't eating a balanced diet in general, it's a good idea just to have one meeting with a nutritionist because you can always learn something that you just didn't know before.
