Travel destinations: Mexico

Mexico is a country of many faces and whilst I was on vacation, I decided to pack in as much as possible. I have an interest in history and one of the first things I wanted to do was to investigage the legacy of the Myans. Mexico is a sun-kissed paradise which will definitely amaze and fulfull any travellers dream.

The first part of my trip took me to a beautiful sunny beach in Talum which is a favorite with holidaymakers. From there I travelled onto Cancun, approximately 60km away, and I just had to partake in a long swim in the turquise seas that framed a beautiful white sandy beach.

The next place I visited was the highly impressive Talum ruins which feature Mayan statues that peek out and beg you to explore these amazing ruins. This is a 12th century city that is in decay however, you could still feel the magical presence of the people who once lived there.

I stayed a few days in Talum and tasted the lip-smacking tequila. I tried it straight, I tried it in cocktails, Margaritas...my hangover helped me to stay that extra few days in Talum.

My next port of call was one of the most interesting to me. I visited a magnificent pyramid at Chichten Itaz. There are 91 extremely steep steps and you wonder just how these ancient people managed to move these massive rocks. This structure was built over 1,500 years ago. Awesome.

During my trip to Mexico I samples every local cuisine I could. The main cuisine is simple; fish and meat dishes with lots of sauces or salsas. I was off Tequila for a while so I ordered Sangria instead. Very refreshing. Ok...back on the road...

I continued on to Playa del Carmen and went diving in the clear waters with reefs so beautiful I wish I was a dolphin. The tranquility and colours are amazing. I ventured on to the Yucatan Peninsula which is as arid as a bone. I also explored the Loltun caves where you see cave paintings that are literally thousands of years old.

To sum up. My trip to Mexico was a wonderful experience. If you like historic sites there are plenty to investigage, if you like sun worshipping and don't want a hectic vacation, Mexico is the place for you too. If you like your food then let the Mexican cuisine sizzle your tastebuds. Overall, a perfect vacation with plenty to do.
