Do cats understand us? There is a definite mystery about cats, most would agree. Cats, as with most pets, gain an understanding of their surroundings and the owners that have responsibility for their care.

Cats are a product of the environment, if they live with plenty of love, it is certain you will be requited as a loving cat owner. Most cat lovers would agree cats are interesting and fascinating creatures. They truly are cuddly and comforting, they fill a void for many that own them.

I do believe that cats, like other pets do have some understanding of humans. Some people think cats are quite in tune with people, yet I believe they are rather manipulative and self obsessed at times.

Cats are more concerned for their own life style habits pleasing themselves more often than not. The mussing around owners ankles is for sure a sign that they are very aware of getting just what they require if they please someone.

Although they are instinctively survivors in the wild and one with nature, I do believe they do not mind a pampered. I have an eighteen-year-old cat, which I might tell you I believe has become smarter with age. She carries on like a kitten and is showing no sign of dementia apart from the fact she uses the bathroom as her daily toilet.

She is fussy and lets you know it with her meow becoming increasingly louder if left unattended. I know that someone once said there were jokes about the way cats perfect that stare, into space, and yes, I think they may be just ignoring the humans in the house. If she has taught me anything, it was unconditional love.

I love her to death in the evening when she sits still on my lap, but God help her when she decides to be the alarm clock around five in the morning.

If I am not up to feed her, after the initial yowling, which progressively gets louder, I can expect the keys on the hook in the kitchen to be banged around, or the dresser contents to be pushed to the floor in the dark.

This is what I call, the, I want what I want now syndrome. I suppose, as many cat owners would agree, they most often do get what they want, sooner rather than later if they are adored by their owners.

This is most often the case with balls of fluff. Yes, they understand us all right, but it would be helpful if owners could teach them to speak so they did not have to go on a path of destruction.

Cats have a mind of their own. Apart from the fact I am sure they have a very spiritual link to people. I am still wondering if they can see ghosts.
