Short stories: Children's stories

Once upon a time there was a very lucky little girl and her lucky little brother. When they went to visit their Grandpa, they got a very special gift. The gift was a treasure box. Grandpa had made the treasure with his own hands. He had carved beautiful pictures of roses all over the outside of the box.

When Grandpa gave the treasure box to the little girl he told her "Always keep your most special gifts in your treasure box." The girl nodded that she would put her most special items that she loved in the box.

The little girl was very pleased with her special treasure box. She went out picking wild flowers with her brother. She found the most beautiful daisy, perfectly formed. She loved the daisy. She picked the flower and brought it home to show her mother. But before she could show her mother, the daisy wilted and died.

The girl was sad. She felt that the flower was truly a special treasure, so she put the dead flower in her treasure box before she went to sleep that night.

When she woke up in the morning she went to the treasure box, opened it up, and looked for her flower. But the flower was gone! Instead, in it's place, was a beautiful bookmark that contained a pressed flower that looked just like her beloved daisy! The little girl was so happy!

She took the bookmark and brought it to her mother. "Look Mama, I want to give you this bookmark!" And her mother thought the bookmark was the most wonderful thing in the world. She hugged and kissed the little girl and smiled so broadly that it made the little girl feel very special.

Later that day, the little boy was out by the river. He found a pretty rock which he loved. He picked up the rock, and brought it home to show his father. But before he could show his father, the rock slipped from the little boy's hands and smashed into a hundred pieces.

The boy was sad. He felt that the rock was a truly special treasure so he put the broken rock into the treasure box before he went to sleep that night.

When he woke up the next morning he went to the treasure box, opened it up, and looked for the broken rock. But the rock was gone! Instead, in it's place, was a shiny crystal. The boy was so happy!

He took the crystal and brought it to his father. "Look Papa, I want to give you this crystal!" And his father thought the crystal was the most beautiful thing in the world. He hugged and kissed the little boy and smiled so broadly that it made the little boy feel very special.

Later that day, both the boy and the girl were out for a walk. Along the way they found a worn piece of paper that neither of them particularly liked. They took the paper home, and not know what to do with the paper, they put it in the treasure box.

The next morning, they woke up and looked in the treasure box. What did they find, but a photo of and old monster that scared them silly!

They knew then, that the only thing they should put in their treasure box was something that they truly loved, or otherwise it might end up becoming their worst nightmare!
