Testimonies: Addicted to World of Warcraft

Am I addicted to World of Warcraft? No.
Does it take up too much of my time? It used to.
Are other people addicted to World of Warcraft? I'm very sure of it.

For anyone who has never played World of Warcaft, or whose only experience with video games has been from the box you plug into the TV, it is nearly impossible to understand the potentially addictive nature of the game.

It is not a simple video game in which you start, complete, and play again at a harder difficulty. World of Warcraft is a Massive Multi-Player Online Roleplaying Game (MMPORG or MMORPG, depending on which initials you like to use). It connects people from around the world to play together in a simulated environment. There is no "game over," there is not "reset," there definitely is no "pause." World of Warcraft is another world (Azeroth, to be exact) in which real people have real interactions. They can make real friendships, and they even sometimes make real enemies. To put it another way, the people playing the game, make the game.
It is this interaction with the other people in the game that makes it so addictive. I started playing World of Warcraft after my brother and another friend of mine insisted I give it a try. Their praise for the game was unlike any I had ever heard before. I had never played an MMPORG before and wasn't sure I believed the game could possibly be as good as they said it was. Moreover, I was hesitant to pay a fee to play a game (yes, there is a monthly fee for this addiction). However, I was quickly sent a trial account so that I could test out the game. A day was all it took...an hour was all it took. I was hooked.
I was able to create my own character, give him his own name. I could play with other people, meet other people just like me, from around the world. I'm a mid-West American who now has friends or acquaintances from around the country and even in Canada. I could talk to them, joke with them, laugh with them. We could work together to accomplish goals and advance in the game. Some of the people in the game I leveled with, and therefor, in some way, have a shared history with them. I realize this all may sound silly to those not familiar with the game, but World of Warcraft provides real interactions, just in a different setting.
That's how the game is fun. That's how it is so addicting. By participating, you make it addictive. Also, the more you participated, the more addictive it would be. Like I said, there is no "pause" or "game over." Even if you are not
