Easy ways your family can "go green"

bulbs to Eco friendly light bulbs which will reduce your electricity bill and conserve energy.

To conserve watering your garden is so important. Plant plants in an area according to their watering needs opposed to the plants that need more water. Install timers, drips,& sprinklers so you give only the amount of water is needed for the plants. To improve the moisture in the soil, use compost & use Mulch around your plants, walkways,& other bare areas so weeds don't grow & you don't waste water. A friend of mine uses tires around the plants and other areas, this is even better than Mulch.

All the food waste, can be composted via composting rather than throwing it in the garbage. Vermicompositing is very easy and anyone can do it. All you need is a container filled with moistened bedding, worms & food waste. This can be done in homes, schools, work, & other places. It will take a couple of weeks to turn the food waste into compost and it can be used in your garden for you planting needs and for the plants. It is rich in nitrogen, making it an awesome organic fertilizer.

Instead of using swiffer wet jet, mop the floor with cloth. After mopping the floor, fill up a small container of water and put a little bleach, you cloth will be clean as ever & ready to be reused.

When mowing your lawn, use the grass clipping on your garden rather than filling up landfills. The grass clippings will reduce water usage and it will provide nutrients to your soil rather than buying fertilizers.

Recycling motor oil, find out about the certified centers in your area. Certified Used Oil Centers will take the used oil and will pay the customer about 16 cents a gallon. Otherwise it will be tossed in storm drains, trash cans, or poured on to the ground which will only contaminate & pollute the soil, groundwater, streams, & rivers. By recycling, it is a win,win situations for the you the consumer by being paid for it and for the environment.

During the rainy season, collect the water in buckets and store it in a big container for few days. There are products you can use to stop the bacteria growth and use it for your plants rather than using the sprinkler or water from the tap. Even if it means watering with rain water for a few days when plants need the water.

Grocery shopping, saying "No to plastic bags" is the key. Always take your own bag. Keep one at home and one in the car. If you forget to take it while going out, you always have one in the car. Plastic bags stay around for 100's of years
