Why is the iPod so expensive?

Apple Inc. has clearly made history with the popularity of its line of iPods. Since its introduction in 2001, the iPod has been the fastest growing music playing device in history. You would think that over the years, the price of the iPod would come down dramatically, but why do they remain so expensive? The answer is simple- financial security. When you open up the back of these wonderful machines you will not just see a few, but a multitude of components. In the quest to build a better product, Apple Inc. uses spearheading technologies from different companies to create the iPod. Very little is made by Apple themselves. Inside the iPod you will see parts from Toshiba, Sony, Samsung, and many other companies. And because these companies also wish to make a profit from the device, the price of the unit piles up. Although Apple receives criticism from the price of the iPod, this approach to production is rather smart. If something were to happen to one of these companies, very little would actually effect the iPod- rather than a catastrophic loss. And with the collaboration with these companies, Apple is able to simply create a better product for all.
