Believe it or not, my father taught me how to weave gimp, over forty years ago. Of course, I'm quite sure it wasn't called gimp then. He taught me the four strand method. For awhile everything in the house had woven pulls. The cupboard drawers,
the refrigerator. The stove. You get the idea. Today children love to weave gimp for key chains, cell phone decorations and back-pack pullers.
The main thing to remember when weaving the plastic lacing, is to keep every weave tight and flat. It tends to twist and turn. Gimp takes a certain amount of patience for it to come out perfect, but if you tighten and flatten each weave, it's really very easy. Gimp weaving, as will all weaving, is monotonous and some children don't have the patience to finish. Start with a small project, so they can see a finished item, without too much frustration. Also, use different colors, so they can identify which ones they use next in the weave. Most of all, be patient and have fun!
