A beginner's guide to beer-tasting etiquette

A beginner's guide to beer-tasting etiquette leads one to believe that the beer tasting is not done for the alcohol. Truly beer tasting can become an art as one realizes the beauties and textures of different beers. As a beginner there are obvious manners one might consider.

Omit the guzzling. A beer tasting experience is different from a beer guzzling contest. Guzzling is for getting drunk, beer tasting is to learn the different aspects of each beer.

Know your limit. If your body does not handle alcohol in a timely manner learn how many is too many to drive or make sure you have a designated driver.

As in all beverage tasting events, learn not to make a face if you find one distasteful or better yet, learn to sip first.

Beer tasting can be an interesting experience as well as a learning experience. From the lighter beers to the dark stouts, each beer has a personality and flavor. Before beer tasting you might research the different types of mixes since some use wheat, some use hops and corn. The brewing process is a fascinating process and can also teach you which type of brewery or brewing makes the best tasting beer.

Beer has been a part of human history. There is quite a bit of history on different beers and their places in different cultures. Oktober Fest is an annual beer fest in Germany that is also celebrated in various areas of the United States. Learn some of the culture, have fun, but most of all, drink responsibly since too many tastings can add up to too much beer. Please do not drink and drive.
