Matcha Green Tea with Ice Cream
Vanilla ice cream with some Matcha powder is refreshing and delicious. What exactly is Matcha powder, and how does it differ from the green tea we find in tea bags? The leaves used for the tea bags are typically grown in the sun; by comparison, the leaves used for Matcha are grown in the shade. The shade-grown leaves are then de-veined, leaving soft material to be ground into Matcha. It's a delicate flavor that is also beneficial because it contains antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins.
You can find the Matcha powder at most any Asian Foods store, and I would also try gourmet places like Whole Foods and World's Markets. I've found a bag of 8 oz for about $5, and the 8 oz will last for awhile. If you'd like to try the product before buying a bag of it, there are many businesses that do juicing (i.e. carrot juice, etc.) that also offer matcha tea. Jamba Juice, for one, offers shots of matcha with soy milk or orange juice.
Now, for a "recipe"...
Pick your favorite vanilla ice cream and put a teaspoon of the matcha powder per cup and a half of ice cream. It's delicious, but don't put too much powder.
Enjoy!
