Tips for storing furniture

Why do you want to store the furniture? Perhaps you are tiring of it right now. Even so, on account of some sentimental reasons you would still like to keep it for the future. May be it is very expensive but does not blend with the interior decoration of your house.

You need a big place to store furniture. The bulkier the furniture, the bigger a space is required. The storeroom or garage is preferably cool, dark but dry. Cold and humid room would only invite the number one wood's enemy, THE TERMITES. While to long exposure to the sun light would fade away the stain on the furniture.

If you are storing any wooden furniture, it is wise to give it a coat of wax as a protection from stain. While polishing you can determine if the furniture is worth keeping. If there are parts with upholstery, I would suggest you vacuums it a least once to remove the dust or any unseen bugs.

Now is the difficult part; to wrap it up. Use plastic sheets to wrap your furniture. Paper is not recommended as it would easily be torn . Tape the furniture securely before you placed it in your storeroom. This method is enough to protect your furniture from dust and being stained by insect.

Make sure to put in the bulky item first. Similarly, if you need to stack it up, ensure that the big piece is at the bottom. Please, do not place any heavy object on top of the furniture. Heavy object should be carefully placed directly on the floor. Placing heavy object too long on the wrapped furniture would cause the plastic sheet under it to stick on to the furniture. The longer the more difficult for you to remove it. Thus, when you try to peel it off, the paint would follow.

Spray the room with an insecticides. An occasional inspection is necessary to ensure that the plastic cover is still secured and not torn. If on checking the room, you got some strong wood's scent, it is better to give a thorough investigation. Check for the termite trails in the room. If you found one., do get a professional pest control company to treat it. Finally reinforce the wrapping with another layer if necessary.
