better than bedsheets dried outside in the fresh air? No dryer can replace that crisp, clean, heavenly-scented sensation.
6. Start a compost pile. Like most of the "going green" ideas, it serves a double purpose. First, it reduces the amount of trash you are sending to the dump. Second, a compost pile creates wonderful nutrients for your vegetable or flower garden and it is easy to manage.
7. Grow your own vegetable garden! It is one way you can be assured of organic produce to feed your family. If you can't do this, then buy your produce from local fruit and vegetable stands. Your family will eat much healthier and the amount of foods exported from long distances will decrease in the grocery stores.
8. Shop wisely. Often organic and natural products are more expensive than more processed varieties, but that is not always the case. Read labels on every product you buy. Most of the time I can leave the store with less harmful products and not spend any more money than I had already planned to. It just takes a little more work in paying attention to what I buy.
9. Reuse as much paper as you can. I never throw a piece of paper away that has a blank side. At work and at home I cut up used paper and use the flip side for scratch paper. People used to look at me strangely at work, but now I see many around me doing the same thing. Waste as little as possible, and reuse as many items as you can. It saves on landfill space and also saves money that would be spent on purchasing things like note pads.
10. Be a good role model for your children, your neighbors, and those you have contact with in your daily life. The more people see us "going green", the more likely they are to make positive changes in their lives as well.
"Going green" can become a family project. Encourage all members of your family to come up with new ideas the family can "go green" and then implement them. Every little bit counts and our Earth will thank us for it.
