Poetry: Night

Great beast consumes the day
the moon has chased the sun away
those that toil with burning skin
have tired themselves and are turning in

primetime t.v. split by news
a husband and wife have things to do
the children tucked away in bed
the bus comes early the father said

a drunkard man urinates his clothes
and for police men strikes a pose
beligerant and cursing mad
is taken where they take the bad

his lice infested beard gets shaven
his life a script not unlike a Craven
waking to the pounding head
he rises from the concrete bed

he pokes the inmate next to him
and says what time did I get in
the inmate laughs and states oh no
you have been here for a year or so

one night one drink a fight and then
he winds up in the cell again
to pet and paw and congregate
the guards bring him stale bread on metal plates

the darkness she is wicked
but only to those who are wicked
the brightness he is just as wicked
but he is wicked to everyone
