Running With Scissors is one of those 'must read' books-I will happily recommend it to everybody I meet. This is a fantastically dark humored book which had me laughing and cringing at the same time. How much of it is true is debatable-the Author claims this is taken from memoirs of his rather bizarre upbringing,whether these events actually happened as portrayed in the book becomes irrelevant as you begin to read,it is one of those rare novels that you just can't put down. And once you finish it I guarantee you'll be immediately on the hunt for the next books in the series to find out what happened next.

The plot of the book details how the author was given away to his Mother's psychiatrist when he was young,his Mother is a rather fascinating woman that it's hard to believe somebody could be so self-absorbed yet convinced she is a good parent doing everything for her child's welfare.The psychiatrist is a truly odd fellow who is in need of some counseling himself.His family are also as 'interesting' as he is and you can only feel sorry for the introverted Augusten as his whole world is turned upside down when placed with the strange family who he is now expected to live with.
This book is amongst one of my favourites and you wont be disappointed with it,so find a nice quiet corner,grab a cup of coffee and settle back for a rollercoaster ride with the insane life of Augusten Burroughs.
