As a martial arts student, and urged to study the martial arts after seeing it on film, it is easy for me to appreciate some of the best fight scenes that was captured and choreographed well on cinematic views. The concept of suspending your disbelief but has elements of realism completely applies to a lot of martial arts movies. Here are my personal favorites that I've compiled to share with the readers a good list of recommendable films dedicated strictly for the fans of cinematic martial arts.
Enter The Dragon
Bruce Lee at the top of his game and the twilight of his life debuts with this American production and well-budgeted film that made him an international superstar with legendary and mythical status. This film spotlights Bruce Lee's extraordinary skills that ultimately urged me to study the martial arts. Such a sad demise of a legend and I feel that even though the master did get to see the final outcome of the film, he wasn't able to obtain the recognitions he deserve to be at the premiere of his best work.
Drunken Master 2 aka The legend of drunken master
One of Jackie Chan's best with the choreographies of Yuen Woo Ping(The matrix,Crouching tiger, hidden dragon). An adapted sequel to his earlier film from the seventies of the same title when every martial artists on film was still pressured in the shadow of the legend of Bruce Lee after his tragic death. Chan was already starting to shape his original personae and approach for film that would later be defined with amazing acrobatics, deadly stunts, and jaw-dropping speed in fighting choreography.
Fist of Legend
Jet Li's provides a well done remake of Bruce Lee's Fist of fury(aka The Chinese connection)as his personal tribute for the master. Intense speed, clever choreographies with twists from the original story lines that completely enhanced the film's worthiness and Jet Li's status in the acting category and a superb martial artist.
Police story 1-2
One of the many films in his years in Hong Kong cinema when Jackie Chan along with his insane stunt monkeys had already set the standards as high as ten times the notch in action films through all of Asia and some in Europe while America's still unaware and pathetically relied upon the action styles of Schwarzenegger, Stallone and a bunch of huge explosions. Here and like his typical films from the eighties, Chan and his stunt crew suffered numerous injuries for the sake of stunts and just-as-well-be full contact fight choreographs that raises expectations required
