Hmmm, let's see. First, there was Disneyland in Anaheim, California. Then Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida. Then came Disney Paris, followed by Disney Tokyo, with the latest opening just a year or so ago in Hong Kong. All right, if you prefer a floating resort, there's the Disney Cruise Line. So, which one to choose?
When our kids were growing up, our family vacationed at Walt Disney World on 15 annual trips, and visited Disneyland three times. During my working days, as a conference planner and director, I slaved for weeks at a time at WDW once every three or four years. One of my kids, now all grown up and a TV producer, does occasional shooting projects at both Disneyland and WDW. Other than only knowing of what goes on at the Paris, Tokyo and Hong Kong branches from what I read from news and gossip, I think I can call myself somewhat of an authority on Disney, and give my personal opinion.
I prefer Walt Disney World for both business and family trips. The Anaheim original is still to be greatly admired since the day it opened in 1955 with the then-obscure actor, Ronald Reagan, as the commentator. Although it does put in new features at times, it is still crowded into its original small space in the crowded and heavily-trafficked Southern California area. WDW was totally planned and created in a Disney-owned area the size of Delaware with the intent to grow through the years. And grow it has!
As with all Disney parks, WDW is totally and faithfully family-friendly, with huge new city-sized projects going up just about every year. There is more and more to see for families to come back many times and, as our growing family did, visit year after year. Whenever we get together, I drag out the many Disney-visit videos and photos and we enjoy the memories of a lifetime over and over again.
