I have been using the same electric tooth brush for about a year now. It goes up and down rather then round and round. This was my dentist's recommendation so as to get in between the teeth better. From the time you turn it on it will run for two minutes. Half a minute per quarter mouth of teeth, that's officially what we are to brush. Manually I don't know about the strokes, there would be a lot less strokes per minute doing it manually. A benefit of the manual brush is it will exercise your arm for two minutes, although I don't see any way that promotes oral hygiene.
I like my electric toothbrush; I can go a week with no recharging, the bristles, and speed are as good as when it was new. Most hand toothbrushes I have used the bristles became flared out to the sides and ends so I was constantly getting new ones.
Weather scrubbing your teeth for your best smile or ease of use and long lasting brush my vote goes to my electric toothbrush.
