Surviving a tornado

A tornado can lay waste to everything in it's path within minutes; the residents of Greensburg, Kansas learned this all to well on the evening of May 4, 2007. With only a 20 minute warning, Greensburg was devastated within moments. Only 5 percent of it's building were still standing (even those didn't go unscathed) and the small town of 1,884 people would grieve the loss of 10 of it's own. A result of an F-5, Greensburg looked and felt like a war zone. If you have only a moment's notice here are a couple of tips to surviving a tornado.

1)If you are at home get to a basement ASAP. If you do not have a basement seek out a neighbor with one or get to a community emergency shelter.

2)If there is no time to do the above get to the lowest lying part of your house and lay flat. Try to avoid windows and cover yourself with a mattress, blankets, etc to protect yourself from debris.

3)If you are in a car get out and immediately seek shelter indoors.

4)If caught outside try and locate a ditch or the lowest lying ground in the area. Cover your head with your hands all the while praying that you will never sin again if you live through this.
