You know, I have never really been a fan of foods that I can not pronounce. So when my friend told me what foie gras was, I clung even tighter to my rule. "Never eat something you cannot pronounce". So just what is foie gras? Oh, believe me, I'll tell you.
Foie gras is literally translated into the liver of force fed geese or ducks. The liver grows to enormous size and then is made into pates and is considered a great delicacy in some places. In other places like Chicago Illinois and all over California it is banned as the process to force feed these poor animals is inhumane and even cruel. The process includes forcing a metal tube down the animals throat every day for a few weeks and around 4 pounds of corn mush is poured into there tiny little bodies until they can barely move. This can cause organ rupture and a very painful death for these poor animals. For a human of around 150 pounds, it would be like being made to eat over sixty pounds of food per day until you die! This is an injustice.
I searched the internet and came up with a ton of ways to cook this and it is sad. Does anyone even think about what they eat? Or what happens to these poor animals before they die? You should. Just think of those poor innocent animals being stuffed until there organs almost explode.
Not so hungry now, are you?
