The Caribbean is characterized by its climate. To want a beach vacation and no heat to accompany it is completely ridiculous.

There are many things that the Caribbean islands have to offer that are definitely worth a little baking in the sun. First, the Caribbean is a biodiversity hot spot. Many of its creatures and plant life are highly-threatened. Plant life ranges from the obvious tropical palms to cloud forests and cactus scrub lands. For example El Yunque, a beautiful tropical forest located in Puerto Rico, is one of the largest tropical forests in the Caribbean and is the only tropical forest in the United States Forest system. It's 28,000 acres is home to many creatures like the Coqui that are endemic to the region. 50 of the bird species found in El Yunque includes one of the top ten endangered birds in the world, the Puerto Rican Amazon. It doesn't matter if you're a bird watcher or someone who just enjoys a walk amongst the tall trees, the Caribbean is definitely a place worth seeing.

There is also vast historical significance in the Caribbean, ranging from petroglyphs from local tribes like the Caribes or the Tainos, to statues and museums dedicated to Christopher Columbus and Juan Ponce de Leon. For those who admire true architecture, El Morro in Puerto Rico is a mine of great history involving not only the Caribbean, but England as well. It is currently, the largest fortification in all of the Caribbean. There are also many cathedral and castles that are absolutely breathtaking to see.

Or maybe you just enjoy Spanish cuisine or Salsa music. What better place to go enjoy these things than in the Caribbean islands themselves where you can immerse yourself in the local dishes and night clubs? If you get a little hot, just take a dive in the Caribbeans many crystalline beaches or take a hike in Rio Camuy Caves in Camuy, Puerto Rico. There are some many places to experience in the Caribbean that I guarantee the heat will be the last thing on your mind.
