After three years of marriage, I have had the time to evaluate and re-evaluate the answer to the question "what does a woman want from her man"? I have found that the answer is fairly simple...

LISTEN
Wives want their husbands to listen to them. Sometimes they are not looking for a "solution" to their problems, rather they are just looking for a kind ear, a shoulder to cry on. If a husband could be this, women would spend far less time crying on the shoulders of their friends.

COMPASSION
This goes with the above...women want a husband who is compassionate, who will listen and provide the strong, warm chest for a woman to cry on when needed. Women don't want a man who is "macho" and tries to simply explain away their problems...men, we know you're just trying to help, but sometimes you just need to shut-up, listen and provide the compassion that we need.

NOT AFRAID TO GET THEIR HANDS DIRTY AROUND THE HOUSE
This is a big one for me. Women like a man who takes care of things, like the yards, taking out the trash, taking care of the vehicles, etc., without being asked. The worst thing in the world is to watch your grass grow to three feet tall while your husband is busy occupying himself with other things until the anger swells inside of you and you have to say something.

DO THE LITTLE THINGS
This is a great way for men to "get what they want" from women... Women want a husband who will take the time to look around the house and do the "little things" that they know their wife will otherwise have to do. If your husband is at home and takes fifteen minutes to unload the dishwasher or the dryer and you come home...wow...that's an amazing feeling!

ROMANCE
It might seem trite, but it's true, women want romance. Women like to get the flowers and the cards with little love notes in them. Women like to be surprised, taken out on dates (it doesn't just end once you say "I do", men!), brought flowers, given little gifts. Women don't necessarily want diamond earrings every month, but a sweet and thoughtful little gift given out of the blue is a gesture that is so very romantic and wonderful!

Basically, women want to be cared for, romanced, listened to in a compassionate manner and in return they want to give back these things. My grandmother said it best when she said "You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"...I think about this statement quite often and I try to employ it as often as I can. Basically, you get what you give!
