At the end of the season, you can be the best team to watch, but that team may not always be at the top of the table come the end of the season.
Situation happened in the Barclay's Premier League last year, it was a close call between Manchester United and Spurs who played the better, stylish football, they were both exciting to watch, but at the end of the season it was Manchester United who ended up as Champions, Spurs could only manage a 5th place finish. Odd you may think. Manchester United won the title not just because of their classy, stylish performances, but because of the wins they got when playing badly, prime example, away at Fulham last year, poor performance but kept going and going until one piece of brilliance from Cristiano Ronaldo won them the match, it happened in a few games, that is why they won the title. These are the results that please managers more.
Spurs? Best team to watch? 5th? Yes, they finished 5th, but they played more exciting football than Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, who finished above them. My point is this, yes you can play good, stylish football but at the end of the day if you don't pick up the wins when playing badly you will not challenge for Championships.
Another point about success being more important than style, Chelsea won the title twice in consecutive seasons, 04/05 and 05/06. They didn't play the most attractive football, but they got results. They were accused of being boring to watch, Jose Mourinho didn't care, as long as his team had their name on the trophy at the end of the season he couldn't care less.
Point to finish. Result more important than Performance.
