Not necessarily; because there are people who will tell you they are happy; yet they do not produce anything. They are happy just "existing" and are satisfied with their lifestyle. They are not producing to their fullest or using their talents or skills to share with others.
Happiness is a state of mind that is relative to each person. For example, there are people within my family who are living in the country or a small town, who seem to be at peace with themselves; however, they are not producing anything! There are some who have worked for many year in the same job, retired, who are satisfied with playing cards or dominoes daily with their friends; however, they seem to be very happy.
Productive people should be happy people, especially if they are following their passions. In other words, if they are doing something that shares their talents, producing a work of art, or leaving a legacy for others; that is production.
I would never want to be referred to as someone who "consumed," yet did not give anything back to the Universe. Included in happiness should also be giving something back.
Then, there are levels of happiness as well as levels of producing. But the bottom line is that all happy people are not productive; because there are those who are happy just the way they are; production is not a part of their repertoire. As long as they have a roof over their heads, food to eat, clothing, and even a few dollars in the bank, etc., (who are in a nine-to-five job); they are happy! I know that most of us know people who fall within this category. Some people; however, will refer to this as productive because they are working and not stealing from anyone!
As stated previously; happiness and production are both relative, and it's based on many factors: If a person has been incarcerated or on drugs for many years, who comes out of prison or rehab and gets education, training, and a job; one could refer to that as being productive. If a divorced woman with three children works and raises those children alone, and the children graduate or go on to college; that would be productive. That particular person might not be so happy, because we know that it would have been a struggle doing what she did! But, in my opinion; she could be considered a productive person.
In the final analysis; happiness and production do not go hand-in-hand all the time; however, it is definitely what I would always want to strive for in order to be fulfilled; but again, it's an decision that each person has to make.
