Teen advice: How to resist bullying

How do you resist a bully? You grab yourself an equalizer so that you're the same size, and you don't back down. A bully will always pick on someone smaller, younger and more fragile than themselves, for if they fought someone their own age and size, they would get their butt beat, and they know it.

They are very much the coward. I do not advocate violence, but neither do I cater to being a beaten spirit with no life left in you to enjoy the time you are given to become a human on this planet. A bully will not back down until you do stand up to them. This has been my experience, over and over again.

What worked for me is my mouth would spew forth something like: "Well, you might kill me or even put me in the hospital but you are going to have a fight on your hands. And if you kill me, I WILL be back to haunt you, mark my words!" These words are very effective if used with the right tone of voice and that look in your eyes that says; "Come on, make my day."

As a child and a teen my family and I moved around a lot, about every six months to a year. This left me as the new kid in school, the new kid on the block and fighting every bully each town had for my right to be where I was at. I would even defend my brother, whom I had no love for anyway, and he was 4 years my senior.

I found the most effective way was to act crazy. Crazier than any of them had ever seen before. When I say crazy, I mean laughing aloud at yourself, daring to have a good time in an otherwise uncomfortable situation. Making statements as was mentioned in the previous paragraphs. I always managed to get between a fragile one and a bully on the playground. Foul play is foul play, and I for one did not view this type of behavior as acceptable.

Don't run from a bully, stand up to them, show them you are not afraid of them, and they usually lose interest and leave you alone if they believe you will give them a run for their money.
