House moving horror stories

I should be an expert at moving by now. I have moved in excess of seventeen times in as many years. Though no move has ever gone smoothly, some have been worse than others.

The easiest move we ever had was when we moved into a totally furnished home. It was beautifully decorated, had food in the pantry, towels and bedding freshly washed and available for immediate use. There were even dishes and pots and pans. I didn't have to bring anything except my clothes. We had endured a couple of weeks staying in a motel and searching long and hard for what seemed to be an impossible place. Then, that place just dropped into my lap. Though we had suffered stress and worry, all in all, it was a smooth move.

I can't say so much for any other moves. We have had major and minor disasters, but all have confirmed that moving is extremely stressful. Of all our moving horror stories, the most difficult moving horror story has to be this last one.

I had no job and no place to live. We stayed with a cousin that had a major mental illness. Some days it was fine we were there, and others it was not. We spent many hours hiding out at the local Wal-Mart to avoid being underfoot when he was so welcoming.

Having no job, I had no insurance. My son has a major major illness that requires medicine to the tune of $995/mo. We couldn't afford it. I have severe diabetes. I couldn't afford my medicines. My blood sugar went wild. I found a job substitute teaching, but didn't qualify for insurance. However, since I earned "too much" my son didn't qualify for Medicaid. Without his medicine, he began to have a mental meltdown. I couldn't afford the doctor or hospital that he needed.

With no steady income, my car almost got repossessed. My sister bailed me out. I managed to save my car with her help. I had to have it to be able to even look for a job, and to get to work to substitute teach. We moved in with her for a month. She had seven foster children, and immediately all the children, her husband, one of my kids, and me all got sick with the flu. It was a horrible time, again.

I had all my belongings in a storage facility. I had pictures from the past 40+ years, items my brother had made (he passed away in October), and keepsake things from my children that they had as babies. I had an antique set of dishes. I had furnishings. I had enough stuff to keep us going for a long time if I could have gotten them here and sold them. But, I couldn't afford
