Where oh where have all the good resumes gone? Perchance to a hiring manager in the sky or perchance to a waste receptacle near you. Resumes are on one hand the entry point to an interview and on the other a single sheet of paper that can get lost in the stack on someone's desk.

In my varied career I have interview hundreds of people from all walks of life and here is what I have found to be a truth in my world. A resume form, template or any other form of resume sheet is completely dependent on the content of the resume. And that is where the excitement ends or begins. It is important to set yourself apart from the masses in the current and past job market. That does not entail the creation of a work of art or a manifesto of your accomplishments it just means that you need to try a new thought process. Most of the resumes I have read were not tailored to the job a person was seeking; remember this is your chance to showcase your skills so make the resume an example of those skills. Use some industry words or phrases, maybe omitting the high school pep rally you were part of or even add in some references names and quotes concerning your work.

These are my thoughts, some may work some may not. I just know there are millions, ok thousands, or resume templates on the internet most of which are dry and look like every other resume in the stack. One last thought, go by the local headhunter ask them what they think of your resume, what would they do different, they after all are the professionals of that industry and maybe they can help as well.
