It's absolutely TRUE, after all!
Poverty and homelessness really are the a result of laziness! What we've been hearing for ages is actually TRUE!
Laziness is most typically defined as 'the state of quality of being lazy.' Other details to enhance the definition include such things as, unwillingness to work or be active, unwarranted repose of manner in a person of low degree, apathy and inactivity in the practice of virtue, relaxed and easy activity, inactivity resulting from a dislike of work.
About laziness, Thomas Buxton has said:
"Laziness grows on people; it begins in cobwebs and ends in iron chains. The more one has to do, the more he is able to accomplish."
And lets not forget Wikipedia's definition:
"Laziness is the lack of desire to perform work or expend effort. It could be considered as an exaggeration of the natural instinct to get healthy, rest, and conserve energy. What behavior is considered laziness varies according to personal and societal standards."
Now, bear with me while I rephrase some of the definitions - you know - just to make things easier for the reader. I wouldn't want to cause any one any extra thinking work, especially since the topic is 'laziness.'
Laziness as a cause of poverty: Laziness is the lack of desire (on the parts of working people who subscribe blindly and lazily to dominant ideologies) to perform work or expend effort (to understand the issues of homelessness). It could be considered as an exaggeration of the natural instinct to get healthy, rest, and conserve energy (and also a way to remain emotionally detached from problematic issues in society that people just don't want to think about). What behavior is considered laziness varies according to personal and societal standards (which may include the following:
-buying in to media representations about homelessness and poverty instead of taking the time to ask questions, think critically about information presented on Television and in newspapers, and
-misinterpreting that donations are all that are necessary to fulfill our roles as 'helpers' in the landscape of poverty issues).
Yes, it's true then. Laziness really is the cause of poverty then, isn't it?
