Holy Cow! The great legend of Yankee Baseball has passed on. I can remember like it was yesterday hearing Phil and Bill White, the 2 announcers for the Yankees during the 1970's. They made you feel like you were part of the game. Every play was intense, every out, every error, every homer, every hit, every strike out was as pure baseball as you could ever imagine hearing it. Phil leaves long lasting memories in ones mind and spirit. Just the sound of his voice has baseball all over it. From the homers of Reggie Jackson during the 78 World Series, to the strike outs of Louisiana Lightening, to the great plays of Thurman Munson. When he would describe Lou Pinella as: "Sweet Lou".. Phil was Mr. Baseball! Since my existence, he was at every 'Old Timer's Day". I watched the games because of Phil. Phil made you feel like you were watching the best baseball game ever. He certainly was a special man and I will always remember him. I remember in the 1970's, when Yankee stadium reopened, I was with my Grand Father who is now 89 yrs old himself, we were driving up to the Stadium and a streaker ran across the car. I was only a kid, it was the first time I ever saw a naked man run in the street. just then, there was Phil Rizzuto, entering Yankee Stadium, my Grand father Shouted; "Phil", and Pappa waved to him and Phil waved back at us. I'll never forget that day. Now, I'm in my 40's and my kids here Mike on TV. They never knew Phil, but I am glad I'm still alive to remember him. He was my Yankee announcer...
