It is always a good idea to celebrate your most memorable moments by opening a bottle of special wine. If you're having trouble deciding on a special wine, keep reading!
First, it is most important to consider the type of event; here are the most common events where it is most appropriate to celebrate with an exceptional wine.
Wedding is a very cheerful and festive event and it is particularly appropriate to celebrate it with a sparkling wine such as champagne. Go with a sparkling wine such as Bartenura Prosecco and Domaine Carneros Brut. They will create a special charm for such a wonderful occasion.
Birthday party is another way to show how you love and respect the hero of the occasion. Want to be a star gift-giver? Bring a bottle of wine with a customized label. Sparkling or dessert wine (Muscat and Obtuse) meets the occasion.
Anniversary is a very thoughtful and memorable day that becomes more valuable through the years. Veuve Clicquot champagne, sparkling wine or ice wine is a perfect choice. Any vintage wine reminds that you celebrate a very special occasion. You get bonus points if the wine's vintage year matches the couple's anniversary year.
Thanksgiving is a very rich and lavish holiday. However, since such a variety of dishes are served, it is much more difficult to select the right wine. Consider offering several different wines: red (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Pinot Noir) for dark meat, white (Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, or Zinfandel) for white meat and fish and sweet (Duet or Deco) for dessert and fruits.
Christmas is a wonderful, family time. However, this event occurs in the cold and flu season. Therefore, seasonal spicy wines and hot grog or glitwein might be a good choice for this occasion, e.g. Mount Hope Holiday Wine. Here is a recipe for Glgg, a Swedish wine drink.
Glgg (traditionally made with red wine, almonds and raisins)
8 whole white cardamom pods, crushed with 1/2 cup sugar
8 whole cloves
1 3-inch piece of cinnamon stick
1 tsp dried orange peel
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup blanched almonds
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup brandy
1 bottle red wine (Burgundy)
Put cardamom, cloves, cinnamon and orange peel in a cheesecloth. Combine with remaining ingredients into a ceramic and fireproof pot. Heat over a medium flame, letting the mixture simmer, but not boil. When the sugar has melted, remove the cheesecloth and discard.
Place a few raisins and almonds in each glass. May be saved overnight and reheated.
New Year is a very merry holiday with expectations and hopes of a better, happier year than the previous one. This festive and ambitious celebration is perfect for a cheerful champagne or dessert wine.
Easter is a religious and serious occasion that many European people celebrate with Cahors wine (powerful red wine).
Finally, don't forget that wine goes well with other special events such as your big promotion and friends' housewarming parties. Celebrate them with any wine you like and of course the ceremonial cork shot of a champagne bottle proclaims that something special has happened!
Cheers on your next festive occasion!
