I think that gay and lesbian couples should have the same rights as straight couples on 'marriage'. Marriage as recognized by the states were taken from different church and religious affiliations and were not created by government but only recognized by it. I do believe that there needs to be some recognition for gay and lesbian couples be it a 'civil union' or whatever. Who are we as people to take away the right for anyone other people to live with a partner merely based off of their sex. That is no different then not allowing a particular ethnic group to be allowed to be married. It is not right. This country was founded on freedom and our right to be free and I think that gays and lesbians are not an exception to that rule. If they commit a crime then they are punished the same way that a 'heterosexual' person is so why are we taking away their freedoms in other areas? It doesn't make sense to me. I think people are too scared and think it is a contagious thing rather than just respecting others for who they love and want to be with.
