NFL previews: How the New England Patriots will do in 2007

Hoo boy... If you're a Patriots fan, you're familiar with the current situation in Foxboro. Here you've got a team stacked with talent, coached by a genius, owned and operated by one helluva businessman, led by a salty veteran with a championship ring for almost every finger on his throwing hand. Hopefully most of you know where I'm going with this (and if you don't, for shame!).

Yep, that's right. That Pats have turned into the New York Yankees.

Of course, I'm not complaining. And for all those nay-sayers out there who would refute the claim that the Pats are on a sure-fire road to victory (I'm looking at you, Indianapolis) allow me to break down the season for you. Here she is, in a nutshell:

What you've got to understand is that the Pats this year are able to do what the Colts did last year: spread defenses with their awesome passing game and then let a fleet-footed running back dance all over them. The receivers that Belicheck has in mind for the job are, of course, plastered all over the front cover of every newspaper, magazine, bumper sticker, and any other flat surface in and around the city of Boston. On the outside, we've got the formidable Randy Moss of Vikings fame and Raiders infamy. Everyone's amped about this acquisition, but I tell ya what: I ain't thrilled just yet. Moss doesn't run across the middle, and has a tendency to flake out on anything but a go route or a post-corner pattern to the back of the end zone. Don't get me wrong, the guy's great. He's got wheels and ups like few others in the history of the game. But he doesn't go over the middle.

No biggie, though. Because in addition to Troy Brown (and how many times have you seen that guy get railed by a free safety, only to bounce back up and trot back to the line of scrimmage?) the Pats also acquired Donte' Stallworth, a young phenom formerly of the Philadelphia Eagles. Talk about quick, this guy leaves seared turf in his wake, and will run any route in the book as well as training-video superstar Tory Holt. Hell, give him a year or two, he might run routes BETTER than Holt, if you can imagine that.

Next on the list is an underdog of sorts, a man by the name of Wes Welker. No one knows a whole lot about this guy, who was shipped up from the (slightly) warmer climes of Miami. Strangely enough, Welker was only the number 3 receiver - a slot guy like Troy Brown - but led the team in catches with 67 for 687 yards. Not staggering numbers, but it's not nothing.

With Welker and Brown in the mix, I
