Cold nights laced with torrid lust

A friendly embrace impedes the chill

Smoke tendrils advertise a proposal

That the inhibited mind won't acquiesce

The instigating cigarette burns on.

Anticipation amplifies the intermission

The smoldering perseveres

Through the lackadaisical night

And the tremors evoked,

Biding the time until the last embers expire.
