I bet that luck is nothing but the lack of intent. Well, more accurately, the lack of a causal relationship between actions and results. I wonder if we can ever really have, achieve, or even witness such a disconnect. I mean a complete and utter separation between deeds and circumstances. As you can see, I'm really struggling to decide if there really is such a thing as randomness.

First, let me allay right from the top any assumptions one may make regarding MY interpretation of "randomness" or lack thereof. When I wonder publically if randomness is merely a theoretical concept and not part of real life, I am not supporting or necessarily denying the existence or influence of forces outside of our behaviors (such as others' behaviors, nature, "acts of God", *God*, etc..). For the scope of this article, I am focusing only on the hypothesis that our very own actions influence, dare I say it, ALL of our encounters with these external or environmental stimuli. This then leads to the notion that, on even the tiniest and most subconscious level, we always exert SOME control. Is randomness, then, eliminated as a true factor?

You did not intend to find that five dollar bill under your car seat while looking for your cell phone. What luck! Or was it a mere inevitability that you would EVENTUALLY rediscover that money by going through the normal actions in your daily life - which, for most, includes the occasional car cleaning? You were definitely going to find it at some point. So you found it. Big deal. It wasn't exactly random, then, was it? Okay, perhaps it was a wee bit serendipitous - and maybe even the timing happened to be fortunate or helpful.

What about the kid (oh wow - he's sweating! - and hyperventilating) who, for probably the first time in his young academic life, forgot to do one of the homework assignments last night. Look at 'im! He's about to faint!

"Okay, boys and girls. Take your seats. Now, I know I said that today we would go over the outlines you completed last night on section one of the chapter on Mesopotamia, but instead, I'd like to go right into reading section 2 together as it is rather long and has some new vocabulary. I'll collect BOTH outlines tomorrow."

What a break!

"Dude - you are sooooooo lucky!".

"Yeah"..(pant, pant...sniff..)..."Woah!".

Was *that* luck? Or, just some karma coming back to this kid because he really is very diligent.
