There is more than meets the eye.
Aside from the facts that evasion is easy when one can dress in a burka (but he sure would be a tall woman) and hide in sophisticated catacombs, many have not thought of more perilous, hidden reasons.
Has anyone ever considered that we might be over a rock in a hard place? If he is alive, he is the Robin Hood of the Middle East. Could killing or capturing him have an opposite, deadly effect? Would it unite Muslims throughout the world and, in their eyes, verify that we are the Great Satan? He has become less and less a key figure (more iconic than anything else) in the war on terror. Robin Hood couldn't do anything if he was denied his faithful band of followers. So it may be strategic to render him ineffective by going after supporters. You did not see us focus the main thrust of our military strength on capturing Hitler. So it was with WWII and any other war in history and should be now - Get the generals and you render the armies impotent. Get the soldiers and you have no one for the general's to command.
The government's main job is to defend the nation. In so doing, there are things that must be kept secret. We say we want full disclosure but, in my opinion, we don't want to know some things the things that would keep us awake at night. You want an example? Okay, how's this Let's assume Al Queda sent a message to the White House as follows:
"We have put the following plan in action on the condition that you touch one hair on Bin Laden's head. In the following eight cities (listed) are nuclear devices. If you do not deem this credible, I suggest you go to _____ and look beneath the stadium bleachers in section 10, aisle 11. This is just a sample of what awaits the other eight cities. Your people's fate is in your hands touch Bin Laden and your cities and people die. Leave him alone and they will have another day live."
As President, what would you do?
