in them. If you simply put 2 people in every car on the road, you would literally eliminate about 30-40% of highway traffic. Put 3 people in, and that factor becomes over 50%. What would that mean? No traffic jams at rush hour, less dependency on foreign fuels, and a major reduction in vehicle emissions.
6. Take cooler and shorter showers. We all need to be clean, that's true. What we don't need is a 30 minute long shower with the water scalding you as it hits you. Keep your showers limited to 5 minutes; turn the temperature down to warm instead of hot. If it's possible, run a warm bath instead.
7. Sell your dishwasher. Do you really need it? People were washing dishes by hand long before the invention of the dishwasher. Yes, it takes 15 minutes of your evening to do up the dinner dishes. And yes, it'll likely save you about 15-20% on your water bill, not to mention a slight improvement on your electricity bill.
8. Go Hybrid. If you are a larger family and you need a fair sized vehicle, consider getting rid of that gas guzzling SUV or minivan and have a look at hybrid vehicles. The market is slowly growing to accommodate more and more hybrid vehicles. Prices are higher than regular gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles, but they do offer higher fuel mileage.
Along with these methods, keep your eyes open for anything that is produced "green" or is environmentally friendly. Get the whole family involved and your friends and neighbors. Turn your "green" family into a "green" community. Keep our planet beautiful!
